Hi All.

Thanks for visiting my site.

Background

I started writing songs in earnest back in early 2017. ‘No More Candy Man’ was my first attempt, and I've been writing around one song per month ever since. I thoroughly enjoy the creative process that goes into it and have received a lot of personal satisfaction when songs reach a finished state.

My primary contributions to the songs are the lyrics and story involved. I'm always on the look out for new ideas that will motivate me to turn them into songs. I also write melodies and come up with the chords that best fit the melodies.

I'm not a performer or even an accomplished musician, so while I come up with the lyrics, melodies and chords, I leave the musicianship and vocals to the professionals in order to end up with a polished, finished product. However, that costs quite a bit of money to hire folks to do this, but now there is…

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

As of this writing I have accumulated over 100 songs and a large portion of them have remained on the shelf, because they have not been fully produced. With the advent of AI music generation tools, it is now a very inexpensive process to create completed songs with full instrumentation and vocals that are engineered and ready for publication.

I have mixed emotions about this. Right now, the tools I use pretty much create the melodies and music. So my contribution has been diminished to the lyrics when I turn to AI. That being said, I'll spend hours with AI in finding and selecting the melody that I feel best fits my lyrics. And I spend hours tweaking the music to get the right inflections, dynamics, emotions, pronunciations and cadences. I won't use an AI-generated song that I feel is not at least as good as my original concept. What I've found is, the AI music is sometimes better than what I wrote. But not always. And sometimes I find no AI version that is satisfactory.

I had to shift my thinking regarding my diminished contribution in this creative process and decided that sometimes just being the lyricist and music curator, if you will, will have to suffice. Especially if the final song is superior to what I had originally written.

So.. am I the songwriter? Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Maybe a 'song maker' is a more accurate term when I team with AI. I am always the lyricist, however, with no exceptions. I refuse to cede that last bit of creativity to AI, to tell my stories.

About the songs..

Songs listed with the LYRICS link will take you to the lyrics and provide a little background to the story behind the song. At the end of the LYRICS I'll let you know how the songs were produced - by AI or by humans.

Listen Free

I've purposefully let these songs play out in full, from this website. My intent is to showcase entire songs for free, and not just snippets. However, if you like what you hear, I certainly would not object if you made a purchase. More truthfully, I encourage you to make a purchase :)

Eventually, these songs will be on the major streaming platforms, if they are not already.

Bottom line - I hope you enjoy the songs!
