From the recording Love Has Its Price
Lyrics
Your wife pitched a fit
When you told your boss you quit
A colossal mistake
That started your bad breaks
Car got repossessed,
Foreclosure, IRS
Divorce, bankruptcy,
And you blame it all on me.
So sad about your mess.
Can you be serious?
How could you think I knew,
Like some guru,
What’s best for you?
Starting yesterday
Reject all I say.
Pay attention carefully:
You listen to me,
Don’t listen to me.
Don’t listen to me.
Ya bought my attitude
Of complete certitude
I’m surprised you ain’t heard
Of my sketchy track record
Next time you better try
To vet and verify
And not rely blindly
On someone like me
So sad about your mess.
Can you be serious?
How could you think I knew,
Like some guru,
What’s best for you?
Starting yesterday
Reject all I say.
Pay attention carefully:
You listen to me,
Don’t listen to me.
Don’t listen to me.
I know I know one thing
With every fiber of my being.
I implore,
I advise,
You be wise…
Don’t listen to me.
So sad about your mess.
Can you be serious?
How could you think I knew,
Like some guru,
What’s best for you?
Starting yesterday
Reject all I say.
Pay attention carefully:
You listen to me,
Don’t listen to me.
Don’t listen to me.
You listen to me,
Don’t listen to me.
Don’t listen to me.
Don’t listen to me.

Track Notes

I got this idea when I was visiting a retired college professor. He told me about his son wanting to start a business and forego college. The professor discouraged his son from doing so, but his son went ahead anyway. He later sold his business and became a multi-millionaire. My professor jokingly said, 'If you want my advice, don't take it." And that served as the seed idea for this song.
