This was one of those 3AM wake-ups with 'I Never Thought' coming into my brain. I worked out most of the lyrics for the next two hours while lying in bed. I purposefully use a lost soul receiving the love of God as the inspiration for the lyrics, but made them also apply to finding love in life, in the human sense.

After the song was done, I realized these lyrics parallel the experience of a close friend of mine who, after many years, came back into the life of her high school boy friend, and basically rescued him, both temporally and spiritually.
