  1. I-80

From the recording Love Has Its Price

Lyrics

Don’t need no maps, no GPS
Doin I-80,
East not west
I’m goin one way
Cross the USA.

No scenic routes,
No turnin round,
Not gonna stop unless I breakdown,
I’m headin one way,
Cross the USA.

I’ll keep on goin’
I’ll drive and drive,
Until I reach the 35,
Don’t know just yet
What I’m gonna do,
Doesn’t matter to me
I’ll be free…

Free from you.

I’ve had enough, so I hit the road
With an empty truck and a heavy load
Takin’ I-80, to where I wanna be.

Race in the Basin, fleein’ the past
Set a new record drivin’ the Flats
Doin’ I-80
Like a French Grand Prix

I’ll keep on goin’
I’ll drive and drive,
Until I reach the 35,
Don’t know just yet
What I’m gonna do,
Doesn’t matter to me
I’ll be free…

Free from you

You really crossed that line,
You never shoulda crossed.
No swerves we met head on,
We’re done, my gain, your loss.

You say I’m running from,
I say I’m running to,
I’m running to a new life,
A new life without you.

You really crossed that line,
You never shoulda crossed.
We met head on,
We’re done, your loss.

You say I’m running from,
I say I’m running to,
I’m running to a new life,
Without you.

Crossed the Continental Divide,
Leavin’ you behind on the other side.
I’m liken this ride,
And the Great Divide.

No scenic routes
No turnin round
Not gonna stop, and I won’t breakdown
I’m headin my way
Cross the USA

I’ll keep on goin’
I’ll drive and drive,
Until I reach the 35,
Don’t know just yet
What I’m gonna do,
Doesn’t matter to me
I’ll be free…

Free from you

Track Notes
---------------------------------------
This song has been in my 'archives' for years. When AI came along, I thought I'd give it a shot, and found and worked out a music match I really, really enjoy.

Originally, the song implied this was an East to West journey, ending at the 101 in California. (..I won't be done, until I reach the 101.."). But with California's problems of today, including the wild fires, high taxes, high cost of living, and people and businesses leaving, I didn't feel that was a good place to end up to "be free". So, after I finished the AI music, I decided I needed to switch directions, which meant reversing the geographical encounters sequence. That took quite a lot of work, to do that and maintain the same music vibe. But I'm really happy with the decision and result.
