From the recording Love Has Its Price
Lyrics
I told my mom and dad “My search is finally done,
I found the one, and now I’m gonna pop the question.”
“We’re happy for ya, but we gotta warn ya, son:
Love has its price”
I know. I gotta go and buy that ring right away,
Gonna have a great engagement by the end of the day.
Called my baby to make plans,
She said “No, there’s no way,
Yesterday I got a brand new fiance.”
Love can take ya high and
Love can take ya low
Love can put you on and
Knock you off your pedestal
Love is joy
Love is pain
You gotta know
Love has its price..
Love can make you feel like
You’re walkin’ on air
Then kick you to the curb
And leave you down in despair.
Ecstasy, agony,
Love don’t care.
Love has its price.
Thankfully, eventually I found my Hon,
We made our home, we made our life a blessed One.
If you’re askin my advice, now, I wouldn’t think twice
Love’s worth the price.
Then one fateful day, she was taken away.
Reelin’, feelin’ numb, I cried “No! There’s no way!”
I bitterly remembered what my parents used to say:
Love has its price.
Love can take ya high and
Love can take ya low
Love can put you on and
Knock you off your pedestal
Love is joy
Love is pain
You gotta know
Love has its price..
Love can make you feel like
You’re walkin’ on air
Then kick you to the curb
And leave you down in despair.
Ecstasy, agony,
Love don’t care.
Love has its price.
I believe love’s a two-edge sword
Take it for what it’s worth.
It’s my belief, with love comes grief,
The more you love, the more you’re gonna hurt
Love can take ya high and
Love can take ya low
Love can put you on and
Knock you off your pedestal
Love is joy
Love is pain
You gotta know
Love has its price..
Love can make you feel like
You’re walkin’ on air
Then kick you to the curb
And leave you down in despair.
Ecstasy, agony,
Love don’t care.
Love has its price.
Love has its price.
Love’s worth the price.

Track Notes
---------------------------------------
My youngest sister's husband was killed in a train - car collision. We (family and friends) were in the emergency room when he was taken off of life support. It was as solemn, sacred time and mixture of love and grief. One of my sister's church leaders was present and spoke of how grief is a manifestation of love.
She and I were talking about this a short while later, when I asked her if I could make a song of the concept 'Love has a price' based on that experience. She fully approved.
This song is intended to capture the varying degrees of the price of love, from a somewhat shallow understanding to the profound manifestation of love through grief.
This was my first attempt of having the song fully produced by a single organization (studio). I was extremely pleased with the end result.
I've since wished I would have written and recorded this in the third person. I actually have re-worked the lyrics to do so, but we're locked into this recording.
I also wish I would have written "When I proposed to her she said 'No there's no way', She already had another fiance." In the first verse. It's a little more clear regarding the initial rejection.
