From the recording Love Has Its Price
Lyrics
I came in peace
You said it won’t do,
The damage was done
Won’t change your point of view.
You rained your wrath down on me
‘N once again convicted me wrongfully..
Been through this so many times before.
Another battle in a protracted war.
False accusations, again galore.
I ask why I should try anymore
Don’t matter what I say, or how I say it,
Persuade or portray or how I convey it.
Pleasin’ and appeasin’ you never works.
You’re only at your best when you’re at your worst.
I don’t understand your thinking or position,
Your agitated state, unstable condition.
You misconstrue-
What’s intended,
You search for hurts, and are always offended.
I finally came to the realization
We’re in a toxic, raging relation.
What you lack in maturation
You make up with manipulation
It’s a straitjacket life with you.
Such a beat down,
I’m done, we’re through.
I’m done be’in force fed what I’m not,
I’m done contorting to your mind rot.
Don’t matter what I say, or how I say it,
Persuade or portray or how I convey it.
Pleasin’ and appeasin’ you never works.
You’re only at your best when you’re at your worst.
I don’t understand your thinking or position,
Your agitated state, unstable condition.
You misconstrue what’s intended,
You search for hurts, and are always offended.
Leavin’ this guilt trip, it’s going nowhere.
Too much drama for what’s not there.
I gave it my best,
N’ girl, I swear,
My empathy is shot,
I don’t care.
Don’t matter what I say, or how I say it,
Persuade or portray or how I convey it.
Pleasin’ and appeasin’ you never works.
You’re only at your best when you’re at your worst.
I don’t understand your thinking or position,
Your agitated state, unstable condition.
You misconstrue
What’s intended,
You search for hurts, and are always offended.
You misconstrue
What’s intended,
You search for hurts, and are always offended.

Track Notes

I was reading or listening to a podcast about a certain former rock star who has been wildly successful. He is now distinguishing himself by going to what many (including me) think are extreme measures to protect his copyrighted music, where if even snippets are used in tribute type videos, his team of lawyers will make sure they are taken down.
Anyway, one of the people commenting on this guy said "He is only happy when he is miserable." I thought that was funny, and it inspired me to make a song about someone who is always looking for ways to be offended, or to paraphrase my song "being at their best when they are at their worst." I'm pretty sure you all know these types.
