From the recording Love Has Its Price
Lyrics
In Labor and Deliv’ry
We had a little baby
A blessed event.
We were two,
Now we’re three,
With our angel, heaven sent.
Brimming with emotion,
We heard a loud commotion,
That broke our reverie.
And then we saw
Our mothers-in-law..
Oh no
They mean well, I have no doubt,
But I must leave, I must get out.
My wife held me by my hand
And said “Man-up and be a man
“There's no need to run and hide.
“Buckle up, enjoy the ride
“There’s a confluence of good
“When angels collide.”
Our mothers took over,
Said move over,
Dismissed doctors and nurses.
They redid the room
In teddy bears and balloons,
Emptyin' bags and purses.
While one uppin’ each other
Bein’ grandmothers,
A mob burst thru the door
With both grandpas
And aunts and uncles galore
Oh no
They mean well, I have no doubt,
But I must leave, I must get out.
My wife held me by my hand
And said “Man-up and be a man
“There's no need to run and hide.
“Buckle up, enjoy the ride
“There’s a confluence of good
“When angels collide.”
Lotta laughing, lotta gushing,
Lotta nurses shushing,
All to no avail.
I had a change of attitude,
Filled with gratitude,
My heart began to swell.
Our bundle so heavenly,
Our special delivery
Is right where she should be,
From angels above
To angels beneath.
Oh
There's no need to run and hide.
Buckle up, enjoy the ride.
There’s a confluence of good
When angels collide
There's no need to run and hide.
Buckle up, enjoy the ride.
There’s a confluence of good
When angels collide

I told a guy (Craig) at our church that I write songs. He was supportive in his response, and seemed to think I was doing it for therapeutic purposes, but actually I do it more because I really enjoy the process and the results. Anyway, he offered up a phrase for me to consider: "When angels collide, there is a confluence of good." Craig is one of our deep thinkers, and at first I wondered what he was talking about with these colliding angels and confluence of good. Then he explained that good things happen when angels do their work, no matter how reckless or chaotic they may be as they perform it. I really liked that concept and asked if I could use it, and he said absolutely.
So my challenge was, how could I make 'angels colliding' in a good way that would relate to all of us. I came up with the idea of the rowdy gathering of loved ones, who are the angels, converging at the hospital when a baby is born. And.. I didn't completely leave out the other angels, either.
Thank you, Craig!
