From the recording Love Has Its Price

Lyrics

When our overseers saw that over-seas disease
They said it’s comin to our shores, gonna bring us to our knees.
An epic pandemic, infirmities,
Death and distress, crashed economy.

I was hurtin for you, didn’t want to see you cry.
Your reaction to it, well, it took me by surprise.
I think I caught a smile and a gleam in your eye.
I didn’t know then, I soon found out why.

They say that we must practice Social Distancing.
Me oh my, how you jumped at the chance.
You perfectly abide strict Social Distancing.
You safely maintain our distance.

When they told us that we had to stay apart,
I thought it was too much to ask.
But, then I understood exactly where I stood
When you put on that mask.

I gotta say this stresses and strains
Our relation’s foundation,
When all day everyday you play keep away
In your isolation.

They say that we must practice Social Distancing.
Me oh my, how you jumped at the chance.
You perfectly abide strict Social Distancing.
You safely maintain our distance.

You leave me unnerved, you shake my confidence,
I wonder which you prefer:
If my spacing were six feet apart,
Or six feet under?

You say that we must practice Social Distancing.
Me oh my, how you jumped at the chance.
You perfectly abide strict Social Distancing.
You safely maintain our distance.

You safely maintain our distance.

Track Notes

'Social Distancing' was written in the summer of COVID, 2020. I'm sure many other COVID-related songs were written then, too. This one has the intention of being humorous - a little, tiny bit on the dark side, where the girl uses 'social distancing' to keep her guy physically away from her.

I made a full-on video, that shows the story. In retrospect, I wish the song was a bit brighter sounding (it was intended to be humorous, after all), and I wish the video didn't have so many dark scenes). Still, I think the song was produced extremely well and when I re-watch the video, I still think its funny, just too dark, visually. That's all on me, it's not like I didn't have a strong say in the final products.
