  1. DOME

Lyrics

We’re payin the price
For the life we led
Profligate spending
Drowning in red
Never said ‘No’
Only said 'Yes'
There’s only one man
Who can fix our mess

Elon, Elon
What to do?
Why can’t we
Be more like you?
With hundreds
A billions
Give or take a few
We might
Just make do

Elon Musk
Come to our home
Just like DOGE
We could use some DOME
To put us on a path
Of self-sufficiency
A Department Of
Marriage Efficiency

We're glad ya came
To assess our mess
What you-re doing, though
Seems excess
Tracking our spending,
Our times, our eats,
Leisure and pleasure and
All our receipts

Elon, Elon
Don’t you
See the pain
You’re putting us thru?
Austerity
Responsibility
Ain’t no fun
Ain't carefree

Elon Musk
You turned our home
Upside down
With your DOME
And no holds barred
Cost-cutting spree
All in the name of
Efficiency

You say
There’s no excuse
For waste, fraud and abuse
Well, we don’t like
What you’re doing at all
It’s like your bowling
With a wrecking ball

Elon, Elon
I won’t be bossed
Don’t like your ways
Don’t like the cost
Frugality is not
Priority
Give us space
MYOB

Elon Musk
Leave our home
Don’t like DOGE
Don’t want no DOME
No solvency
No efficiency
Don't want no
Self-sufficiency

Elon Musk
Please leave our home
Don’t want no DOGE
Don’t want no DOME

Track Notes

My brother suggested I write a song about DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency, headed up by Elon Musk). I decided to 'bring it home' to the everyday folks by introducing DOME, a fictitious Department Of Marriage Efficiency, where Elon Musk comes to your home to fix your personal finances. The song follows "The 5 Steps of Rise and Relapse"* arc:

Realize, Reach up, Rethink, Resist, Reject

The song starts as an acknowledgement of personal finance problems and a plea for help. When the help comes as too strong a medicine, push-back occurs until the help is completely (and foolishly) rejected.

DOME really is DOGE and the song illuminates the irrationality of resisting and rejecting genuine help for emotional and ideological reasons, and of rejecting the efforts of eliminating waste, fraud and abuse of any kind.

* As far as I know "The 5 Steps of Rise and Relapse" is original to me. I wrote the song to follow that kind of an arc, then assigned 'R' names to the actual steps after the the song was written. It seems to be a common characteristic of humans. We often struggle to improve, and ultimately fall back to our original ways (or worse). Proverbs 26:11
