Lyrics

Why don’t more
Words rhyme with love?
An’ not just glove, shove
Dove and above?
Maybe there’s more
I ain’t thinkin of
Why don’t more words
Rhyme with love?

French, I’m sure
Has a score or more
Than four
That rhyme with amour
I wish English
Were so easy
For love-rhymed songs
And poetry

Why don’t more
Words rhyme with love?
An’ not just glove, shove
Dove and above?
Maybe there’s more
I ain’t thinkin of
Why don’t more words
Rhyme with love?

Same old rhymes
Day after day
Years on end, so cliche
What to do with such a few
Words to rhyme
My love for you?

Why don’t more
Words rhyme with love?
An’ not just glove, shove
Dove and above?
Maybe there’s more
I ain’t thinkin of
Why don’t more words
Rhyme with love?

Gimme some tools
To bend some rules
To make more words
Rhyme with love
Enough is enuv
Would it be too tuv
To have more words
Rhyme with love?

Why don’t more
Words rhyme with love?
An’ not just glove, shove
Dove and above?
Maybe there’s more
I ain’t thinkin of
Why don’t more words
Rhyme with love?

Gimme some tools
To bend some rules
To make more words
Rhyme with love
Enough is enuv
Would it be too tuv
To have more words
Rhyme with love?

Why don’t more
Words rhyme with love?
An’ not just glove, shove
Dove and above?
Maybe there’s more
I ain’t thinkin of
Why don’t more words
Rhyme with love?

Track Notes

About the only thing I have to say about this song is.. it is true. There are really only a few words in the English language that rhyme with love (except for the variations on 'of', such as 'thereof'.) That seems really ironic, since love is such a strong theme of poetry and songs. At first I just wrote this to capture the lack of words, then I added in a bit of sentimentality into it in the second verse, to provide a love motivation for the lament.
