Lyrics

She greeted me so kindly
At her mother’s funeral
Still friends
Though I hadn't seen her
For so many years
Now she's gone
Like her mom
She no longer is here

A mortality check
Life doesn’t last forever
So I wanna tell all of you
What I wished I woulda said to her

Oh
I'm so glad I knew you
I hope you and life's been good
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I got a prayer in my heart for you

Hardly seen you since graduation
Maybe never see you again
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I’m so glad I knew you

I watched your
Budding young romances
I too, had a few with you
My secrets, I told only me

You’d laugh and glide and
Rock and roll at the dances
While I wished and wondered
Off the floor, unsure
You were always good to me

And
I'm so glad I knew you
I hope you and life's been good
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I got a prayer in my heart for you

Hardly seen you since graduation
Maybe never see you again
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I’m so glad I knew you

Friendship was security
In my uncertainties
I hope I was as good to you
As you were to me

Oh

I'm so glad I knew you
I hope you and life's been good
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I got a prayer in my heart for you

Hardly seen you since graduation
Maybe never see you again
Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I’m so glad I knew you

Wherever I go
Whatever I do
I’m so glad I knew you

Track Notes
---------------------------------------
This song is totally autobiographical. Originally, it was only going to be about my friend who passed away at far too young an age. And I really did talk with her at her mother's funeral, and hadn't seen her for years and years. So, the sentiments are real, I wish I would have told her I really appreciated her friendship in my growing-up years.

But rather than make the song solely about her, I decided to generalize it to express such feelings to all those good people I grew up with. The second verse delves more into me being on the sidelines while watching friends (male and female) having a great time specifically dancing, which I had no confidence in doing, whatsoever, and also watching their young romances. And through it all, they were awesome friends. I'm really glad I knew them.
