Lyrics

The Sadie Max
---------------------

We got a really fine
Place to dine
With roots going back
To sixty-eight or nine

A laid back scene with
Love 'n delta cuisine
Nothing lacks at
The Sadie Max

We are

Mother Earth’s children
Crafting kitchen creations
With Aquarian ethos
In every preparation

We whip our cream
Beat our eggs
Debone ‘n grill
Free-range chicken legs

Deep fry giblets
And chitlin snacks
We barbecue racks
Of baby backs

Crush our nuts
Burn brulees
Gut, flay ‘n fry
Catfish filets

Prepared in peace
Immerse and relax
In harmony ‘n bliss at
The Sadie Max

We got the vibe
Atmosphere
And ambiance
We keep it real
Unlike other restaurants

Unity
Oneness
Those are the facts
Here for you at
The Sadie Max

We pop our corn
Ice our drinks
Grind, stuff ‘n tie-up
Sausage links

Break our bread
Dice our beets
Shred, braise, char and
Knife our meats

Chop liver
Crack lobsters
Pound, peel, ‘n slice
Rocky Mountain Oysters

Prepared in peace
Immerse and relax
In harmony ‘n bliss at
The Sadie Max

If ya want serenity
And tranquility
Brotherhood
Sisterhood
And harmony

This is where you wear
Flowers in your hair
So, come make tracks to
The Sadie Max

We scorch burgers
Smash tomatoes
Steam live crabs
And mash potatoes

Scald our milk
Grate our cheese
Eviscerate, carve ‘n
Broil turkeys

We batter our shrimp
Boil pigs feet
Slaughter and butcher our
Grass-fed meat

Prepared in peace
Immerse and relax
In harmony ‘n bliss at
The Sadie Max

Prepared in peace
Immerse and relax
In harmony ‘n bliss at
The Sadie Max

Track Notes
---------------------------------------
I was eating out with my brother and sister-in law, and noticed 'Battered Shrimp' as a menu item. It brought to mind images of shrimp abuse (which I'm sure to animal rights activists, most certainly is). I mentioned this to my brother and sister-in law, how that might make a humorous song concept, and boom, we came up with dozens of cooking terms that are, well, violent.

My brother was the main driver of this, and texted me a list of all kinds of terms and ideas. I had to come up with a 'story' to drive this concept. I thought it would be ironic for a hippie-based restaurant, of love and peace, to be using all the violent ways to prepare their food. Because there is so much meat preparation involved in the lyrics and cooking concepts, I decided to combine the hippie restaurant (which I assume would be mostly vegan) and southern cuisine elements into a single restaurant, to fuel irony in the song.

I must say.. it really made me aware how much violence is naturally involved in eating, whether on the savannah or in the kitchen.

I suppose one of the great ironies of this song is the confluence of hippies and rednecks :)
