Lyrics
I walked into our room
To the scent of a
Strange perfume
The sway of the
Curtains ebbed
In the still air
A stray high heel was
By the chair
You fake sleep
In the fetal position
Covered
Completely hidden
I tear the sheets
From off-a your head
You lie awake
You lie in bed
I been burned
I been played
Get out
I been betrayed
Go wallow
In your mess you made
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
I been skinned
I been flayed
There’s a high price
To be paid
It’s my Jihad
It’s my Crusade
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
Just know
As you leave
It’s better
To give than deceive
And I’m given it back
You better believe
With no mercy and
No reprieve
I been burned
I been played
Get out
I been betrayed
Go wallow
In your mess you made
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
I been skinned
I been flayed
There’s a high price
To be paid
It’s my Jihad
It’s my Crusade
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
I’ll pitch’ tirades and
Drop grenades
And nuke this masquerade
I won’t back off
I won’t be swayed
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
I been burned
I been played
Get out
I been betrayed
Go wallow
In your mess you made
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
I been skinned
I been flayed
There’s a high price
To be paid
It’s my Jihad
It’s my Crusade
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade
It’s my Jihad
It’s my Crusade
I’m gonna
Rain on your charade

Via The Beaird Group in Nashville, I pitched a few songs to a record producer, via Zoom. She liked the songs but felt none of them were hit-worthy. She suggested I use one of the lines from 'Voicemail Fail': "I'm gonna rain on your charade". This is the song I came up with, using that line pretty much as the title and main hook. This song and 'Voicemail Fail' are both about cheating. This one, I'd say is much more raw and visceral.
I intended to go the Beaird route with this, until Suno came along. I tried several iterations a few months ago, but none really hit on what I was trying to accomplish. v4.5 came out, and I decided to try again. This time, I had a difficult time deciding which version not to keep. There were many really good ones that nailed the emotions I wanted the song to achieve, and the dynamics I was hoping for.
Interestingly, I probably did 60 iterations and ended up with six candidates. I actually started refining one of them, thinking that would be the version to build on, but there was still one other version I just could not put on the shelf. And that version was the very first one Suno turned out for this second go-around. So I selected it, and did the re-dos to get the proper pronunciations and dynamics I was aiming for. I believe this is probably my most 'powerful' song. It's got the ominous feel in the verses, the pre-chorus amps up the song, then the chorus really belts it. Just what I wanted. As usual, the melody is different that what I originally had, but I think it is really good.
